Common questions

Where does the Mac app keep my music?

In ~/Music/Musick, filed as Artist/Album/01 Title: ordinary audio files you can open in the Finder. Your Music app library and your own folders are only ever read, never changed.

Doesn't a second copy of my library fill the disk?

Not on the same disk. macOS's APFS makes each copy a clone that shares the original's space, so a library of any size takes almost nothing extra. If your music is on another disk, Müsick says how much room a real copy needs before it starts.

My iPhone doesn't find my Mac.

Open Müsick on both. On the Mac, turn on Open to Pair in Phones. On the iPhone, open Settings ▸ Pair with Musick on Mac, and make sure the app is allowed to use the local network (iPhone Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Local Network). Both need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Why can't I import some songs from the Music app?

Apple Music songs are protected, even when downloaded, and only Apple's own player can play them. Songs you bought or added yourself import fine. Songs that are only in the cloud need downloading in the Music app first.

What happens to songs that are only on my phone when I sync?

Before a sync replaces them, the Mac lists them, and you choose for each: import it into the library, keep it aside in Quarantine for later, or let it go.

How do I free up space on my iPhone?

Settings ▸ Manage Storage lists artists and albums biggest first, with a running total of what removing them frees. Or sync a smaller manifest from the Mac.
